Built-In’s With Bench Seat

This particular project was something I wanted to complete as soon as we moved into this house. The front room, which was labeled as a formal living room, was void of character and function making it a space we ignored regularly. I started the project by sketching out what I wanted the finished product to look like and then moved into building a scale model with foam board to visualize how I would build it.

After hours of researching and brainstorming different building techniques, I began the process of building the cabinets and bench seat support. Once complete, I created the shells for the shelving and then worked on joining everything together and to the structure of the house. There was a lot of learning and mid project adjustments as most of the things I was doing were new to me. Overall, the project took about 4 months as I would work on it in my free time around work, school, and family. The end result was exactly what I pictured, and it became the favorite spot of everyone in the house.

I wish I had taken more pictures along the way, and I regret that I don’t have a picture of the final result with it all dressed up and decorated as it would have shown the doors on the cabinets, crown molding installed, and single bench cushion custom made for the spot.
